Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).
  4. Add eggs one at a time along with the vanilla extract; mix until smooth.
  5. Gradually incorporate dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined; fold in red food coloring until desired color is reached.
  6. Scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing them about two inches apart. Bake for 10 minutes or until edges are set but centers remain soft.
  7. Cool on wire racks before serving.
