Ingredients
  

  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups Warm water
  • 2 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 cup Baking soda
  • 10 cups Water
  • 1 tablespoon Coarse sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon Green food coloring

Method
 

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and granulated sugar. Let it sit until frothy.
  2. Add salt and all-purpose flour to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a cloth. Let it rise until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat the oven to 425°F (218°C).
  6. In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil and add baking soda.
  7. Roll the dough into long ropes and shape them into shamrocks.
  8. Boil each shamrock in the baking soda water for about 30 seconds.
  9. Remove from water and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  10. Brush with a mixture of warm water and green food coloring and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
