Ingredients
  

Beef Patties
  • 1 pound ground beef 80/20 lean-to-fat ratio
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
Buns and Toppings
  • 4 pieces hamburger buns toasted
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese optional
  • 1 cup lettuce shredded
  • 1 tomato sliced
  • 1/2 onion sliced optional
  • 1/4 cup pickles sliced
  • 1/4 cup ketchup to taste
  • 1/4 cup mustard to taste

Method
 

Prepare the Patties
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties.
Cook the Patties
  1. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  2. Cook the patties on the grill for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
  3. If using cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.
Assemble the Burgers
  1. Toast the hamburger buns on the grill for about 1 minute.
  2. Place each cooked patty on the bottom half of a bun.
  3. Top with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, ketchup, and mustard as desired.
  4. Cover with the top half of the bun and serve immediately.
