Ingredients

For the Corn Dogs

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup shredded cheese optional
  • oil for frying enough to fill the fryer

Method

Prepare the Batter
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, mix the milk and egg until well combined.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
Prepare the Hot Dogs

  2. If using cheese, you can wrap the hot dog with cheese before dipping into the batter.
Fry the Corn Dogs
  1. Heat oil in a deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Dip each hot dog into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated.
  3. Carefully place the coated hot dogs into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
Serve
  1. Serve hot with your favorite sauces such as ketchup, mustard, or sweet chili sauce.
