Ingredients

Marinade
  • 2 lbs tri-tip roast
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • to taste fresh parsley for garnish

Equipment

  • grill
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Meat thermometer
  • Cutting Board

Method

Cooking Steps
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and olive oil to create a marinade.
  2. Rub the marinade thoroughly over the tri-tip roast. For best results, marinate in the fridge for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  3. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (around 450°F).
  4. Sear the marinated tri-tip on direct heat for about 5-7 minutes on each side until a charred crust forms.
  5. Move the roast away from direct heat and close the lid. Cook indirectly until it reaches an internal temperature of 135°F for medium-rare (about 20-30 minutes).
  6. Allow the tri-tip to rest on a cutting board for at least 10 minutes before slicing against the grain.
